Frequently Asked Questions and First Time Advice

You probably have some questions relating to booking a campervan.  The most common questions are answered below.

What is included in the hire charge as standard ?

Your hire charge includes the following:

• Unlimited UK mileage usage of VW campervan for a given period with:

• Two double beds

• Table seating four people

• Gas stove

• Independent heating

• Fridge

• CD stereo radio and iPod dock

• A full tank of unleaded fuel
• Standard insurance for one driver within the permitted age range
• UK breakdown cover
• Membership of Camping and Caravanning Club providing discounts at most campsites
• Collection from Hereford or Ledbury train stations (where appropriate)
• Secure storage of your vehicle (where appropriate)
• VAT (at 17.5%)
• Utensils including:

• Gas lighter for stove

• 2 saucepans and a frying pan

• Cooking utensils (spatula, tin opener, corkscrew/bottle opener, tongs etc...)

• Kitchen and bread knives

• Colander, grater, mixing bowl

• Knives, forks and spoons for 6 people

• Melamine plates & bowls for 6 people

• Acrylic glasses (wine and tumblers) for 6 people

• Mugs for 6 people

• Kettle, cafetiere and tea pot

• Chopping board

• Washing-up liquid, dishcloth and tea-towel

• Small selection of games, books and playing cards

• Torch

• First Aid kit

• Dustpan and brush

What essentials should I bring ?

Sleeping bag/quilt, pillow, towels and toiletries are the only essentials needed to compliment the standard equipment. Our advice would be to pack light since storage space is limited.

Clearly, the driver(s) needs to bring along their drivers license.  For the main driver we need two pieces of id.  The first is some form of picture id (for example drivers license or passport) and the second as proof of address (for example utility bill that is less than 8 weeks old showing your name and address).  We cannot release the campervan until satisfactory proof of identity is provided.

The refundable security deposit in the form of cash or credit card authorisation.

Can you provide bedding and towels ?

Yes, there are two options:

• you can purchase new sleeping bags and towels at an additional charge of £25 per person.  These are yours to keep after the hire period.  Please request at the time of booking.
• we can hire bedding (quilts, pillow and covers) and towels at £25 per person.  This service is recommended for visitors to the UK.  Please request at the time of booking.

Are my personal belongings covered in the campervan insurance ?

No. We recommend that you have your own travel insurance to cover your personal belongings.

What is the security deposit used for ?

This is a fully refundable deposit that is only used where damage is caused to the van during the hire period including interior fixtures and fittings. Insurance covers you in the event of a reported accident / collision.

Are the seat belts suitable for baby/child seats ?

Yes, all of our campervans are fitted with seatbelts.  Please see individual campervan descriptions under Meet our Vans for layouts.   

Can we bring our dog ?

We plan to keep our new vans allergen free and hence bringing your pet is, unfortunately, not practical.  We do allow dogs in Ned subject to approval.  Also, we can recommend a local dog sitting service (£10 per day, £30 per weekend and £60 per week) where you pet will be looked after in a home environment. Our pet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Oscar, stays there when we go on holiday.

Can I see the campervans before I book ?

You are welcome to come and have a look at our campervans. Please call Stella to prearrange a mutually convenient day and time for your visit. Our campervans could be out on hire and not always available.  If you are local (Herefordshire, Worcestershire or Gloucestershire), we may even be able to meet somewhere near your home or office.  Alternatively check our Events page to see if we are going to be in your area.

What are your office hours ?

Our normal office hours are Monday – Saturday 09.00 – 17.30.  However you can leave a message for us anytime by phone or email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.  Alternative check if we are online on MSN Messenger (see Contact Us).

What is the booking process ? 

1. Check availability and complete a booking request.
2. Email or phone Stella to review any non-standard bookings or seek assistance.
3. We will confirm your provisional booking via email or phone and request a deposit to secure the booking (usually by credit card).  Where the booking is less than six weeks from departure, the full balance is payable.
4. Once the booking deposit is paid we allocate the van to you for the required period.
5. We ask you to complete a Booking Confirmation form.  This details the driver(s) information so that the required insurance cover can be put in place and any extras you require. 
6. The final balance invoice will be sent for payment six weeks before departure.
7. We will contact you the week before your hire period starts to provide directions and make sure that you are happy with the arrangements. Any extras are paid prior to departure.

Will I receive instructions for using the campervan ?

Yes, you should allow at least 30 minutes for the check in process including a run through of the facilities and operating instructions for the campervan.

How different is a VW campervan to drive ?

Whilst our vans are new, they have the same characteristics as their forebears.  No power steering (a big steering wheel), no air conditioning (wind down windows), no servo assisted brakes and no automatic gearbox (a great big gear lever). 

This means you will need to adjust your driving style.  Our best advice is not to rush, allow the first 30 minutes to get used to a more leisurely way of life.  Take time to soak up the admiration of passing motorists.   Once you settle back to a slower pace of life you will know your holiday is underway.
